The Vincent Price Art Museum
The Vincent Price Art Museum is an impressive, diverse collection of works from around the world. It’s located on the campus of East Los Angeles College, and is named in honor of Vincent Price. He visited ELAC when it first opened and became an avid supporter of the school, and eventually donated 90 pieces from his personal collection to make this the first teaching art gallery at a community college.
The museum is run by a team of dedicated staff and volunteers that are passionate about art and education. They all have degrees in different fields and a variety of skills and interests.
Harvey Opgenorth is a professional gallery preparator and exhibition technician who has worked as a museum professional for more than 20 years at a range of institutions in Los Angeles and abroad. His work at VPAM involves supporting the production and stewardship of the museum’s collection, exhibitions, and artist projects. He fosters an environment that encourages learning and sharing knowledge in methods of art handling, storage, and formal display.
Hataya Tubtim is an arts advocate, curator, and educator whose background includes project facilitation, community engagement, fundraising, and grant writing. She has led many arts and cultural projects in the greater Los Angeles area and beyond including the Pasadena Playhouse District, Downtown Long Beach Alliance, and the Arts Council of Kern. She has also helped numerous local artists secure grants through government and private foundation funding.

Gloria Ortega is a new Curatorial Assistant at VPAM and an alumna of ELAC who began her career in the visual arts as a studio artist and now pursues art history. Her research interests include contemporary and emerging artists, Latinx art history, and Southern California cultural histories.
Joseph Daniel Valencia is a curator, writer, and educator who has worked as a museum professional at various Los Angeles art institutions since 2016. He has curated more than 100 programs and 20 exhibitions at VPAM. His curatorial interests include contemporary art and performance, art and social justice, Latinx art history, and Southern California culture.
George Yin is an attorney who has represented public agencies in municipal, education, and water law for more than a decade. He has served on the board of a number of arts organizations and is an active member of his community. He is also a board member of the Vincent Price Art Museum Foundation and an active member of the Chinese Historical Society of Southern California and the Organization of Chinese Americans (Greater LA Chapter).
Dan Guerrero is an award-winning producer and director of diverse programming for television and live arts and culture events at prestigious venues such as the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion for the LA Opera. He has also been an activist for Latinx and LGBTQ communities. He is a board member of the Vincent Price Art museum Foundation and has spoken on Activism and the Arts: A Life Journey.
The Vincent Price Art Museum is a free and open to the public museum, with a full schedule of exhibitions and events. It has seven galleries and a multimedia lecture hall for art history classes. It’s a great place to visit for both adults and children, and the staff is always friendly and helpful.
