Founded in Long Beach by brothers Lou and Mickey King, the restaurant group has 22 restaurants across California, Arizona, and Nevada. The chain’s signature is its wide selection of fresh seafood, which comes from local farms and distributors.

New menu items are based on the changing fishing patterns and what’s available at the fish market. In addition to a wide range of raw bar items, seafood favorites include a dozen oyster varieties (half Pacific, half Atlantic), plus chilled lobster, sea urchin, clams and shrimp.

As a member of the Monterey Bay Aquarium’s Seafood Watch program, and Eco-Certified by a third party, this eatery only serves sustainable seafood. The restaurant’s entrΓ©e options, which include clam chowder and sushi, showcase a diverse mix of local ingredients, including California and Oregon halibut, Alaskan halibut, and New Zealand and Faroe Island king salmon.

This is an excellent option for families and groups looking for a great value meal, or for those interested in eating healthy. Aside from the traditional clam chowder, the menu features a selection of salads and sandwiches.

The menu at Ocean King Fish CA is updated frequently with new dishes to reflect the changing fishing season and what’s available. For instance, this month the menu includes a chargrilled Dungeness crab sandwich with drawn butter and homemade coleslaw, along with a chargrilled spiny lobster with drawn butter and coleslaw.

Other new items include a lobster roll, grilled fish tacos and a fried oyster burger with drawn butter. The restaurant will also start serving Santa Barbara spot prawns next year, he said.

Aside from the main menu, the restaurant will also offer a small bar and a full-service sushi counter. It has a separate seafood section that is home to a large selection of fresh fish, including ahi tuna, bluefin tuna, swordfish, Faroe Island and New Zealand king salmon, monkfish, branzino, and local and Alaskan halibut.

To complement the fish menu, a seafood buffet will be served daily. The restaurant’s chef will create a new item each day for the buffet, which will include a different combination of fresh fruits and vegetables and other items.

The a la carte menu has an emphasis on locally sourced products, with items like Castroville artichokes marinated and lightly charred with basil vinaigrette and pesto mayonnaise. Other options will include steamed wild California Dungeness crab and chargrilled spiny lobster.
